MYTH: HVAC Contractors are dishonest and will charge for unnecessary work.
FACT: Unfortunately, our industry has had a history of dishonest companies, however being an educated consumer can assist in avoiding becoming a victim. Only use contractors that are licensed with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, insured, bonded, and listed in good standing with the BBB of Arizona.
MYTH: My a/c broke down; I will need to pay at least $1000 in repairs.
FACT: Antrim’s average ticket price for repairs is $350 (residential). Many common repairs are as low as $150 + tax.
MYTH: My unit is old, it’s time to replace it soon.
FACT: The age of a unit should not determine its replacement. If the components stay well maintained and operating correctly, there’s no need to replace it other than wanting a higher S.E.E.R. rating. (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio)
MYTH: The higher the S.E.E.R. rating of my unit, the lower my energy bill will be.
FACT: Choosing a proper S.E.E.R. for your home/ business will depend on usage, size, and the desire for a return on your investment.
MYTH: If I turn off my a/c when no one is home I will save money on my electric bill.
FACT: Turning off your thermostat, or setting it to a higher temperature when no one is home will heat furniture, interior walls, appliances, etc. to that setting. When the unit is set to cool down, it will not only need to cool the air but the objects within the space. Those objects are still radiating the previous temp, causing the unit to cycle more often. It is better to maintain a fixed temperature rather than constantly removing unnecessary heat.
